The journey of this exhibition began when artist Noelle Ocen-Odoge attended a workshop at the Penland School of Craft, where she delved into the realm of abstract art. Inspired and invigorated, Noelle conversed with her close friend Eddie, who poignantly described her emerging body of work as "a feast." This conversation spurred Noelle to reflect deeply on her own relationship with food and her community.
As she contemplated these themes, Noelle's focus shifted to the systemic inequities that plague the San Diego food system. Recognizing the crucial work being done by local organizations to address these issues, she channeled her creative energy into this exhibition. It features a blend of abstract art and photography that captures the efforts of these organizations in fostering equity within San Diego's food landscape. Accompanying the visual art are data and information that highlight current research and ongoing challenges within the local food system.
Through this exhibition, Noelle aims to provoke thought, inspire action, and celebrate the collective effort towards a more just and equitable food system in San Diego.
